These women were all trailblazers, but they have something else in common - every one of them was South Australian. And they are just a handful of the 100 remarkable women whose stories are told in this beautiful book, illustrated with hundreds of photographs.

Written by historian Carolyn Collins and journalist Roy Eccleston, Trailblazers shines a light on the lives of these extraordinary women whose feats inspired their state, nation and, often enough, the world. Now they can inspire a whole new generation.

Carolyn Collins is a research fellow in the University of Adelaide's history department. Her interests include twentieth-century Australian history, women's history and oral history. Her PhD thesis, which combined all three, was awarded the university's Doctoral Research Medal. She has also been a journalist, magazine columnist, and communications manager.

Roy Eccleston is an award-winning journalist with the Advertiser. He has worked at the Courier-Mail, the Age, the Australian, and the Bulletin magazine; and written for Time magazine, and The Times, London. From 2000-2005, he was the Australian's Washington correspondent. He has edited SAWeekend magazine at the Advertiser since 2009.

Did you know that South Australia was the first place in the world, that's right the world, where women won both the right to vote and the right to stand for parliament in Dec 1894? I loved the layout of a whole page photo of the inspirational female followed by stories to tell us more about this person and their history, and what they have achieved. It was a great history lesson for me. It also wasn't an overload of information. A student would find reading the information easy to follow. I truly believe that Trailblazers is a must in all South Australian schools, libraries and shelves. It is a great source of information for teachers and students on past and present South Australians. I still can't believe that so many females are from South Australia have made such an impact in history or who have inspired all of us. Mentioned are women from all walks of life and different fields. There are teachers, politicians, musicians, sporting stars, scientists, our first nations people, suffragists and many, many more. I am glad to see many First Nations females mentioned like Josie Aguis. Students will also recognise many modern females like singer/songwriter Sia, footballer/basketballer Erin Phillips and many more. And yes there are so many missing from this book.
